Welsh Real Tennis Association

The highly successful US Open at Chicago which has just finished featured Lewis Williams (QF Singles) and Bryn Sayers (SF singles). The tournament chairman, one of our overseas members, was Jonathan Lewis who not only managed the occasion, but as some of you will have picked up, made commentary in several of the matches. Pleasing to my ear was the match between Lewis Williams and John Lumley when Jonathan mentioned the emergence of the WRTA along with some of the other home nations. Many thanks Jonathan. I hope that in time we will have a visiting group of USA - WRTA members touring the UK.

Up and coming fixtures.

9th May - Wales v Scotland (full International) at Radley.

23rd to 31st May - Bathurst Cup - Paris.  The Bathurst Cup, invariably played biennially and currently held by Australia, represents the best amateur players in the world with teams coming from Great Britain, France, United States and Australian. One of our Australian overseas members, Rhys Williams,  RMTC, will be one of the 4 man team representing Australia in this year's Bathurst.  The week before Paris, Rhys will be in the UK preparing, being based at RTC.  Again, I am keen that members of the WRTA make efforts to watch Rhys play.  Rhys' HC is 13 and lowering, amazingly he has only been playing the game for under 2 years!  How exciting and where will his handicap end up!

6th and 7th June - Wales Closed Championship at MMTCC.  Singles on the 6th & doubles on the 7th. The main feature will be on Sunday afternoon when we have Nick Jamieson and Owen Pettiford playing for our professional title.

Roedd Pencampwriaeth Agored yr Unol Daleithiau hynod lwyddiannus yn Chicago, sydd newydd orffen, yn cynnwys Lewis Williams (Sengl QF) a Bryn Sayers (Sengl SF). Cadeirydd y twrnamaint, un o'n haelodau tramor, oedd Jonathan Lewis, a reolodd yr achlysur nid yn unig, ond fel y bydd rhai ohonoch wedi sylwi, gwnaeth sylwebaeth mewn sawl un o'r gemau. Roedd y gêm rhwng Lewis Williams a John Lumley yn bleserus i mi pan soniodd Jonathan am ymddangosiad y WRTA ynghyd â rhai o'r gwledydd cartref eraill. Diolch yn fawr Jonathan. Rwy'n gobeithio y bydd gennym grŵp o aelodau UDA - WRTA yn teithio o amgylch y DU ymhen amser.

Gemau i ddod.

9fed Mai - Cymru v Yr Alban (rhyngwladol lawn) yn Radley.

23ain i 31ain Mai - Cwpan Bathurst - Paris. Mae Cwpan Bathurst, a chwaraeir bob dwy flynedd yn ddieithriad ac a gynhelir ar hyn o bryd gan Awstralia, yn cynrychioli'r chwaraewyr amatur gorau yn y byd gyda thimau'n dod o Brydain Fawr, Ffrainc, yr Unol Daleithiau ac Awstralia. Bydd un o'n haelodau tramor o Awstralia, Rhys Williams, RMTC, yn un o'r tîm 4 dyn sy'n cynrychioli Awstralia yn Bathurst eleni. Yr wythnos cyn Paris, bydd Rhys yn y DU yn paratoi, gan ei fod wedi'i leoli yn RTC. Unwaith eto, rwy'n awyddus i aelodau'r WRTA wneud ymdrechion i wylio Rhys yn chwarae. Mae prif gymeriad Rhys yn 13 ac yn gostwng, yn anhygoel dim ond ers llai na 2 flynedd y mae wedi bod yn chwarae'r gêm! Mor gyffrous a ble fydd ei handicap yn gorffen!

6ed a 7fed Mehefin - Pencampwriaeth Gaeedig Cymru yn MMTCC. Senglau ar y 6ed a dyblau ar y 7fed. Y prif nodwedd fydd prynhawn Sul pan fydd Nick Jamieson ac Owen Pettiford yn chwarae am ein teitl proffesiynol.
